| Obama An Important Lesson In National Integration And Unity |

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Newly-elected United States President Barack Obama could be an inspirational example for Malaysians, Transparency International president Tan Sri Ramon Navaratnam said.
Navaratnam told Bernama in a telephone interview that it was remarkable for a man of African American descent to be able to win the US presidential election.
"The US has shown the world that minorities have a chance to compete with the majority groups and even to overcome major obstacles and to win the highest office in the land.
"We should do away with supremacist views, regardless of race, and strive to promote the best leadership, to promote the best leaders as Malaysians without regard for their background," he added.
Navaratnam said that only when the country had done away with such views, would the people be able to develop a true Bangsa Malaysia and show it to the world.
He urged the nation from now onwards to resolve and accelerate the process of national integration and unity.
"We must show the world that 'Malaysia Boleh' and that 'We Can' as stated repeatedly by Obama himself," he said.
