ALOR STAR, Dec 26 (Bernama) -- Kedah Assemblyman for Air Hitam, Othman Aziz, has been named by Acting Menteri Besar Datuk Mahdzir Khalid to fill a vacancy in the State Executive Council.
The nine existing exco members remained in the list and their names were submitted for consent by the Kedah Sultan this morning.
They are Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, Dr Shuib Saidin, Nawawi Ahmad, Prof Datuk Dr Othman Ishak, Datuk Chong Itt Chew, Datuk V. Saravanan, Datuk Azimi Daim, Datuk Fong Chok Gin and Khalidah Adibah Ayob.
"I will make some changes in the portfolio of the excos which I shall announce on Wednesday," Mahdzir told reporters after an audience with the Sultan here Monday.
Mahdzir replaced Seri Syed Razak Syed Zain who relinquished the Menteri Besar's post for health reasons.
He will be sworn in as Menteri Besar before the Kedah Sultan at Istana Anak Bukit on Wednesday. The ceremony will also see the swearing in of the 10 state exco members.
Soon after the swearing in ceremony, Mahdzir will chair the weekly state exco meeting at Wisma Darul Aman.
"My hope is for all exco members to work harder in fulfilling the aspiration of the people and the government," said Mahdzir.
Othman, 46, when contacted, thanked Mahdzir for the confidence and pledged to assist the Menteri Besar in the development of Kedah.
A newcomer, Othman is the Air Hitam Assemblyman after winning the seat in the last general election.
He was previously the Commercial Manager of the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway and had held various senior posts in several companies including Sime Darby.
"I believe my experience in the corporate sector will be helpful in fulfilling my responsibilities as a state exco member," he added.
