RapidKL's Kelana Jaya LRT Services Temporarily Suspended Due To Signal And Communication Failures

KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Bernama) -- Thousands of commuters on Thursday were stranded for half an hour from 9.11am when the Kelana Jaya light rail transit (LRT) service ground to a halt due to signaling and communication failures.

Rangkaian Pengangkutan Integrasi Deras Sdn Bhd (RapidKL) in a statement here said normal service resumed at 9.40am after the signaling and communication glitch had been rectified.

"Investigation into the cause is now ongoing," it said.

It said the service was temporarily suspended as a precautionary measure following the signaling and communication failure.

Last Tuesday, the Kelana Jaya LRT service at the Gombak, Taman Melati, Wangsa Maju and Setiawangsa stations stalled for more than 10 hours from 6am to 3.30pm due to a technical glitch.

Meanwhile, a commuter, Habibah Rahim, 24, when met by Bernama at the KLCC LRT station, said the disruption was normal for any train services.

"I always take the public transport as it is cheaper and faster, but when a disruption such as this occurs, it will cause thousands of people to be stranded for hours," she said.

Another commuter who only wanted to be known as Razak, 35, said even with the "on and off disruptions", the LRT was still the best means of alternative transportation.

"However, appropriate measures must be taken, if possible, to ensure that the disruption do not recur," he told Bernama when met at the Bangsar station.

RapidKL in a statement apologised for the inconvenience caused.
