| Saiful Wasn't Paid To Tell On Anwar |

KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 (Bernama) -- Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan was not paid to lodge a police report against Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for allegedly sodomising him.
In dismissing allegations made by conspiracy theorists that he was paid by certain parties to lodge the police report, Saiful's lawyer Zamri Idrus said: "No, no, it's not true."
Zamri, who represented Saiful's father Azlan Mohd Lazim at a press conference here Monday, also vehemently dismissed allegations that his client was gay.
He said he maintained his belief and confidence in Saiful's case.
Saiful's uncle, who only wished to be known as "Uncle Pet", said Saiful's pictures with various ministers came from the days when he was a student leader and he did not know any of them personally.
"Of course, any student leader would like to take pictures with ministers for remembrance. But certainly he did not know any of the ministers personally," he said.
In concurring with Uncle Pet, Zamri said: "You can take photographs with anyone you like. Pictures don't tell anything in this case. And Saiful then was a student leader at his university."
When asked about the family's well-being and how they were coping with the trying situation, Uncle Pet said: "We still carry on with our lives. Because we are Muslims, we leave it to God. As long as we have faith in God, help will come."
Zamri, who revealed meeting Saiful a few days ago, said Saiful was currently "quite safe" under police protection and in good health.
He, however, declined to disclose Saiful's location.
Zamri also revealed that he had seen Saiful's copy of the police report made against Anwar.
He said he was representing Saiful following the civil suit filed by Anwar against the 23-year-old and would hold a watching brief if there was a criminal trial.
Zamri also said that Saiful's father was satisfied with the police investigations but his dissatisfaction stemmed from Anwar's reasons, excuses and lack of cooperation given to the authorities.
Meanwhile, Azlan in a statement read out by Zamri, challenged Anwar to adopt the attitude of being "fearless because of truth" as what his son had been in this case by lodging the police report against him for sodomy.
"My son has given his full cooperation to the police as he has nothing to be afraid of," he said in the statement.
Azlan admitted being sad over what happened to his son, who had repeatedly told the family that he lodged the police report to expose the truth.
Azlan said his son was also prepared to swear the Islamic way in a mosque and witnessed by several ulamas, to prove that Anwar, 61, had sodomised him.
He said this could be done anytime but it would be best after police had completed their investigations.
"The important thing is, my family and I are asking that the individuals involved be brought before the court of justice as soon as possible to resolve the matter," he added.
Saiful had on June 28 lodged the police report alleging that Anwar had sodomised him two days earlier at the Desa Damansara Condominium here.
Anwar, who denied the allegation, filed a summons against the former Universiti Tenaga student on June 30.
