Salary Of Govt Employees To Be Paid Twice A Month From August

PUTRAJAYA, June 11 (Bernama) -- The government will pay the salary of its officers and staff in two installments a month from August, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi announced Wednesday.

He said the measure would facilitate management of expenses and cashflow of households following the increase in fuel prices.

"The first installment will be paid in the middle of the month and the second at the end of the month.

"Deductions for income tax, Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and such will be made in the second installment," he told a news conference at his office here.

Asked whether the private sector should follow suit, Abdullah said: "I feel this is a good approach because it helps our employees to manage the household cashflow. This is important."
