Guan Eng Didn't Anticipate Controversy In Offering Kah Choon

PETALING JAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had not anticipated any controversy when he appointed Datuk Lee Kah Choon as a director of the Penang State Development Corporation (PDC) and chairman of InvestPenang executive committee.

The Penang Chief Minister said the current state government held strongly to its CAT (competency, accountability and transparency) policies and was willing to open its doors to those who could serve.

"We welcome more people who share similar philosophy to join the state government in efforts to make Penang dynamic again," he told reporters at the DAP national headquarters, here Thursday.

He said the former Gerakan deputy secretary-general's appointment to the two state economic development agencies showed that the state government was practising an open-minded policy.

"The new state government would not discriminate the people regardless of their religion, race and political background," he said.

When asked why he picked Lee, a lawyer and a former parliamentary secretary, for the posts, Lim said the state needed the combination and cooperation of every Penangite.

He said that the Pakatan Rakyat-led Penang government would have no second thoughts about offering other clean and competent Barisan leaders in the state a post.

Lee had late last month announced his resignation from all Gerakan posts, including as the deputy secretary-general and a member of the party's two decision-making bodies, the Central Committee (CC) and the Central Working Committee (CWC), after the party's poor performance in the March 8 General Election.
