Samy Vellu Extends New Year Greetings To Tamils

KUALA LUMPUR, April 12 (Bernama) -- MIC President Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu extended greetings to Tamils in view of their new year on Sunday and urged the Indian community to remain united and seize the many opportunities provided by the government.

He said that only through hard work and determination could they achieve success in whatever they ventured into.

"We need to be resilient and independent in order to fully tap the resources that have been made available," he said in his New Year message.

Citing an example, Samy Vellu said the government had provided ample opportunities for Indian youths to improve their skills through the government-run industrial training institutes.

Samy Vellu said the government had opened up various avenues, such as in the civil service, education and entrepreneurship.

"The MIC will continue to fight for more places and opportunities for the Indians in all fields through our representatives in the government.

"We have achieved a certain degree of success but more needs to be done to ensure equal opportunities for Malaysian Indians in all fields," he said.

He said the MIC would not give up on its struggle for the Indian community despite facing some setbacks in the last general election.

"We are even more determined than ever to ensure that Indians achieve greater success and be on par with the other races. The MIC will continue to demand from the government what is rightfully ours," he said.
