KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Bar today welcomed the appointment of Datuk Mohd Zaid Ibrahim as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, entrusted with the responsibility of restoring the people's confidence in the judicial system.
Its president Ambiga Sreenevasan said the bar was happy that Mohd Zaid had been appointed to look into judicial reform.
"We believe that he has, going by what he had said in the past, the right vision to strengthen the administration of justice.
"We have high expectations of him because he is our colleague from the bar and he would have an understanding of the problems faced by the profession and the judiciary," she said when contacted by Bernama.
Ambiga also hoped that Zaid, the former Kota Baharu Member of Parliament, would immediately look into the setting up of a judicial commission, something which the bar has been asking for years.
"We look forward to working together with him and we will give him our full cooperation," she added.
