| Umno Youth Calls Anwar's Action Arrogant |

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 24 (Bernama) -- Umno Youth regards Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's insistence of being an elected representative by asking a party member to vacate his or her seat won in the upcoming general election to enable him to contest in a by-election, as arrogant.
It has been reported that this would be Anwar's strategy if he is not allowed to be a candidate in the coming elections.
To this, Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said PKR winning even one seat in the coming election, including retaining its sole parliamentary seat of Permatang Pauh, was not a sure thing.
He said Anwar's bizarre formula to become an elected representative showed his selfishness while the opposition front had yet to decide on the distribution of seats to be contested by them.
"I am confident we can even win back the Permatang Pauh seat. So, to say that there are people willing to give up their seats for him, shows that he (Anwar) is only thinking about himself. He wants to be the leader of the pack.
"My advice to PKR is to win at least one seat first in the upcoming elections," he told reporters after launching a series of literature books for adolescents and children at the Education Ministry here today.
Hishammuddin, who is also Education Minister, said the people would be able to judge Anwar's statement and see whether the opposition pact was genuine and sincere, or otherwise.
"I wonder whether PAS and DAP -- the other parties in the opposition pact -- would agree to Anwar's stance even before they could decide on the distribution of seats among them," he said.
Hishammuddin said Anwar's formula also showed that he was trying to hoodwink the voters, just like in the Ijok by-election last year where PKR did not field an Indian candidate although it campaigned to fight for the interest of the Indians.
"And the price of oil still rose when he was Finance Minister."
He said Umno Youth was ready to face PKR in the general election.
"We also want to pay attention to the seats that could be vacated by the opposition to make way for Anwar," he added.
