Fasfik Aims To Open 100 Auto Service Outlets Yearly

PETALING JAYA, July 30 (Bernama) -- Fasfik (M) Sdn Bhd, the largest independent chain of tyres, brakes and lubrication service centres, plans to open 100 outlets yearly to gain economies of scale in providing affordable services.

The new outlets will be located at various residential and commercial centres nationwide, according to the company.

"One outlet would cost about RM100,000 and our target is for Fasfik to have 300 outlets by 2009 from the current 25 outlets," chairman Datuk Pahamin A. Rajab told reporters after signing an apprenticeship programme agreement with Empire Putra College, a vocational training institute.

On the agreement, he said it was aimed at enhancing manpower skills and professionalism in the motor industry.

Under the programme, there are three tailor-made courses -- Fast-Track Apprenticeship in Automotive Technician, Fast-Track Apprenticeship in Automotive Supervisor and Intensive Apprenticeship in Automotive Entrepreneurship.

Pahamin said the collaboration was to train technicians, supervisors and entrepreneurs to meet the expectations of graduates in the automotive sector.

The programme will be organised under the guidelines of the Human Resources Ministry's National Dual System Training vocational courses, he said.

Pahamin said the tie-up with Empire Putra College gave poor and underprivileged entrants a second chance to make good their qualifications and be successful in their careers.

"Many youths also display a lack in soft skills and are unable to interact with customers, besides having improper grooming during job interviews," he noted.

Fasfik will offer employment to the graduates trained under the apprenticeship programme.

The first batch of student is expected to start the full course in the fourth quarter of this year and will graduate by end-2010.

"Additionally, we also want to develop these students-cum-apprentices towards entrepreneurship by offering them the opportunity to take up the Fasfik franchise," Pahamin said.

"The Fasfik business model is only open for franchisement to graduates of the full three-and-a-half years programme," he said.
