PENANG, August 11 (Bernama) -- Dell Malaysia opened its first "Dell Learning Centre" at Penang' s Cerebral Palsy Children Associaton centre in line with its commitment to make technology available to all by bridging the digital divide.
Its Asia operations vice-president Simon Wong said the computer company allocated about RM120,000 to equip the centre with 20 high-end desktop computers, an all-in-one photo printer, a laser network printer and three touch-screen monitors.
"Dell focuses on innovative programmes and organisations that prepare youth for the future. We are confident that this centre will equip the special needs children with skills and empower them to be independent in this digitally driven world," he said.
Speaking at the launching of the learning centre located in Jalan Masjid Negeri here today, Wong said 25 Dell employees have volunteered to share their time and knowledge with the children.
He said the programme was funded by Dell Foundation and the company will set up another centre in the country for the underprivilged community but decline to give further details.
Penang's Cerebral Palsy Children Association president Ng Fook On said the learning centre was "a dream come true" for the children as it was costly for the association to set up such a centre on its own.
