| Malaysia Wins Six Pata Awards |

PATTAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- Tourism Malaysia and the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) have won two awards each in the Pacific Asia Travel Association (Pata) 2006 Gold Awards.
Tourism Malaysia's Journal -- Sabah, Sarawak and Langkawi -- clinched the best "Travel Advertisement-Print Media" while its Europe website took the best website honour.
Pata picked Sarawak's Rainforest World Music Festival as the best Heritage and Culture category winner while STB also won the Travel Poster award.
Malaysia also bagged two more honours when Hilton Kuala Lumpur won the Best Business Hotel and Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort, the Environmental -- Ecotourism/Travel Related award
Winners of four grand awards and 31 gold awards from 28 travel-related organisations and individuals throughout the world received their awards at the 55th Pata Annual Conference here today.
The 2006 Pata Grand Award for Heritage was presented to The South China Morning Post, Hong Kong, for its "Hong Kong's Vibrant Rural Communities" campaign while the marketing award went to Singapore Airlines for its "Singapore Airlines Recovery Initiatives -- Maldives, Sri Lanka and Bali."
The Environmental award was clinched by Kerala Tourism, India, for its "Zero Waste Kovalam" project which aims to tackle the waste issue in the fishing village and beach destination of Kovalam by changing the way the community uses materials and resources.
The Education and Training award was presented to Mount Lavinia Hotel, Sri Lanka, for its "Youth Trainee Programme."
The Bangkok-based Pata provides leadership to the collective efforts of nearly 100 government, state and city tourism bodies, over 55 international airlines and cruise lines, and hundreds of travel industry companies.
In addition, thousands of travel professionals belong to more than 30 Pata chapters worldwide.
