BURSA MALAYSIA: KL Share Prices Close Broadly Lower


KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- Share prices on Bursa Malaysia closed lower across the board in moderate trade following profit-taking activities on selected index-linked counters, said analysts.

However, they said the main contributing factor that supported the market for these last few days was the weakening in oil prices.

The benchmark Composite Index closed 2.27 points lower to 916.80, above its 915.00 support level.

It opened at 919.29, 0.22 of a point higher than Wednesday's close of 919.07.

The Emas Index eased 0.49 of a point to 208.65, the Second Board Index rose 0.11 of a point to 87.87 while the Technology Index fell 0.12 of a point to 29.18.

The Industrial Index eased 4.84 points to 1,979.82 and the Finance Index dropped 33.30 points to 7,442.61.

Losers led gainers by 327 to 306 while 329 counters were unchanged, 311 untraded and 35 others suspended.

The volume amounted to 391.177 million shares worth RM619.680 million, went up from yesterday's close of 379.499 million shares worth RM618.481 million.

Turnover on the Main Board rose to 274.768 million shares valued at RM552.506 million versus 256.128 million shares worth RM551.373 million Wednesday.

The Second Board volume eased to 46.714 million shares compared with 49.388 million shares worth RM30.979 million previously.

Turnover on the Mesdaq market decreased to 67.45 million shares worth RM35.058 million from 71.4 million shares valued at RM33.630 million.

Direct business deals meanwhile went down to 49.272 million shares worth RM71.321 million from 87.09 million shares valued at RM50.782 million.

Call warrants eased to 2.245 million shares worth RM2.264 million from 2.583 million shares valued at RM2.499 million at Wednesday's close.

Among the active counters, Pantai Holdings Bhd-Warrants remained flat at 47 sen, followed by Nextnation Communication Bhd which edged up six sen to 63 sen, while Time Dotcom Bhd lost half a sen to 48.5 sen.

Among blue chips, Maybank and Tenaga each lost 10 sen to RM11.30 and RM10.90 respectively, while Telekom remained flat at RM10.30.

MISC went down 20 sen to RM18.00 while Maxis rose five sen to settle at RM9.60.

On a sectoral basis, consumer products accounted for 29.392 million shares traded on the Main Board, industrial products 44.533 million, construction 12.242 million, trade/services 57.28 million, technology 2.772 million, infrastructure 14.137 million, finance 23.739 million, hotels 10.13 million, properties 16.545 million, plantation 9.529 million, mining 300, REITS 326,500, closed/fund 449,400, ETF 95,000 and loans 53.599 million.
