BURSA MALAYSIA: Share Market Closes Almost Flat


KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- Share prices on Bursa Malaysia closed almost flat Friday with selective buying seen on heavyweights which kept the Composite Index up, dealers said.

Among the heavyweights, Maybank rose 10 sen to RM11.40.

At closing, the benchmark Composite Index increased 0.99 point to 937.04 after opening 0.62 of a point lower at 938.86.

The Emas Index gained 0.22 of a point to 213.94, the Second Board Index lost 0.03 of a point to 90.50 and the Industrial Index added 7.38 points to 2,046.65.

The Mesdaq Index declined 0.01 of a point to 93.88.

Losers led gainers by 366 to 345 while 316 counters were unchanged, 293 untraded and 34 suspended.

The turnover amounted to 347.475 million shares worth RM472.647 million compared with 372.774 million shares valued at RM687.734 million Thursday.

The Main Board turnover decreased to 277.683 million shares valued at RM424.458 million compared with 302.481 million shares valued at RM642.681 million previously.

The Second Board volume increased to 46.713 million shares worth RM35.697 million compared with 37.104 million shares valued at RM29.052 million previously.

Turnover on the Mesdaq market increased to 21.162 million shares valued at RM10.776 million versus 30.494 million shares worth RM13.328 million Thursday.

Direct business deals went up to 45.551 million shares worth RM61.108 million compared with 23.539 million shares worth RM47.897 million previously.

Call warrants dropped to 1.917 million shares valued at RM1.716 million compared with 2.695 million shares valued at RM2.673 million Thursday.

Topping the most active counters, Time dotCom rose two sen to 52.5 sen, Silver-WR increased six sen to 8.5, CCM-Warrant gained half-a-sen to 14 sen and Setron added eight sen to 72.5 sen.

Among the heavyweights, Telekom closed flat at RM11.10 while Tenaga Nasional and Genting both lost 10 sen each to RM11.20 and RM19.60 respectively.

On a sectoral basis, consumer products accounted for 17.623 million shares traded on the Main Board, industrial products 26.347 million, construction 14.397 million, trade/services 49.128 million, technology 2.043 million, infrastructure 28.648 million, finance 24.407 million, hotels 3.489 million, properties 20.349 million, plantations 4.704 million, mining zero shares, REITS 801,500, closed/fund 39,400 shares, ETF 954,700 shares and loans 84.752 million.
