Selangor Exco's Special Aide Charged With Making False Claim And Cbt

SHAH ALAM, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Wong Chuan How, special aide to Selangor state executive councillor Ronnie Liu, was charged in two Sessions Courts here today with making a false claim and two counts of committing criminal breach of trust involving a total of RM7,500.

In the first court, he pleaded not guilty to submitting to the Sepang district council on Sept 10 last year an allocation form and invoice containing false particulars for the supply of 2,500 car flags worth RM2,500 for the National Day programme when no flags were supplied.

Wong, 51, also pleaded not guilty to criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM5,000 relating to the organisation of meetings of the Federal Development and Village Security and Development committees in Sungai Pelek on Feb 19 this year.

Both offences were allegedly committed at the Sepang district office.

He also faces an alternative charge of misappropriating the cheque for the same amount at the same place and time.

Deputy public prosecutor from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Mohd Josiendra Senin applied for RM16,000 bail on all the charges, saying that the offences were serious and involved public funds.

Defence counsel Salim Bashir, however, asked for a lower sum as Wong was working without pay and was also a Sepang district council member receiving only an allowance of RM750 a month.

Judge Syafeera Mohd Said allowed bail of RM10,000 with two sureties on all the charges and fixed April 12-16 next year for trial of the first charge under the Anti-Corruption Act and March 29 to April 2 for the CBT charges.

In another Sessions Court, Wong pleaded not guilty to criminal breach of trust of RM2,5000 involving a gotong royong programme for Kampung Baru Lanjut in Sungai Pelek between July 30 and Sept 16 last year.

The offence was allegedly committed at the Sepang district office on Sept 16 last year.

Judge Mat Ghani Abdullah allowed bail of RM5,000 with one surety and fixed five days beginning March 8 next year for trial.

Meanwhile, former Teratai assemblyman Yap Soo San, 43, pleaded not guilty in the same court to seven counts of submitting applications containing false particulars for allocations totalling RM70,000 for festival programmes which were not held.

The programmes involved four Thaipusam programmes for the people of Taman Bukit, Taman Pandan Perdana, Taman Bukit Segar in Cheras Hartamas and Taman Putra and three Chinese New Year programmes for Taman Bukit Segar, Taman Putra and Taman Bukit Teratai.

The offences were allegedly committed at the Hulu Langat district office between Jan 19 and Feb 4 last year.

Mat Ghani allowed bail of RM25,000 with one surety on all the charges and fixed seven days starting May 3 next year for trial.

Deputy public prosecutor from the MACC Roziza Sidek appeared for the prosecution while Yap was represented by counsel Datuk Salehuddin Saidin.

In another court, Yaps Yap's aide, Mohd Firdaus Abu Zarin, 41, who was also represented by Sallehuddin, pleaded not guilty to abetting Yap on all seven counts.

Judge Syafeera Mohd Said fixed bail at RM8,000 with one surety on all the charges and allowed the proecution's application for a joint trial with Yap before Mat Ghani.
