379 Flood Victims Still At Relief Centresin Mersing, Kota Tinggi

JOHOR BAHRU, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- The number of flood evacuees in Mersing and Kota Tinggi stays at 379 people from 95 families at nine relief centres as at this evening.

State Health, Environment, Education and Information Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said as at 4pm, the affected areas in Mersing were Taman Nakhoda, Air Papan, Kampung Tanjung Genting, Kampung Tenglu Besar, Kampung Kelantan, Kampung Air Tawar, Kampung Pengkalan, Kampung Air Merah and Kampung Jemari while in Kota Tinggi, Kampung Bukit Raja and Kampung Sungai Buntu were still inundated.

"Seven relief centres in Mersing were opened to house 345 victims from 86 families namely at Balairaya Taman Nakhoda, Sekolah Kebangsaan Air Papan, Sekolah Kebangsaan Tenglu, Balairaya Serbaguna Kampung Benaung, Pertubuhan Peladang Kawasan Endau, Balairaya Pengkalan Batu and Balairaya Kampung Air Merah," he said in a statement.

Ayub said two evacuation centres in Kota Tinggi at Sekolah Kebangsaan Telok Ramunia and Surau Sungai Buntu were sheltering 34 people from nine families.

He said Mersing was reported to be still raining.

In this regard, several agencies namely Civil Defence Force (APM), police, Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) and the Drainage and Irrigation Department were monitoring the situation.
