28 Undocumented Foreigners Rounded Up In Melaka

PUTRAJAYA, Feb 8 (Bernama) -- Twenty-six men and two women were rounded up in an 'illegal immigrant' operation at construction sites at Padang Temu, Melaka Tengah, Melaka today.

Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali who led the operation said the area located near the sea was a common transit point for foreigners to enter and leave the country illegally.

"These illegal immigrants come here from Tanjung Rupat, Dumai Indonesia in boats, paying between RM600 and RM1,200 each," he said in a statement today.

In the raid which began at 2 am and ended at 3.30 am, 65 men and women were screened.

Mustafar said the suspects were brought to the immigration detention depot in Machap Umboo, Melaka for further investigation.
