Old Folks Home Manager Claims Trial To Trafficking Five Women

JOHOR BAHRU,Oct 5(Bernama) -- The manager of an old folkshome pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today on five counts of trafficking five Indonesian women for forced labourexploitation three months ago.

Tan Chang Keong, 60,made the plea after the chargeswereread before JudgeMohammad Khalid Ab Karim.

The accused was alleged to have been trafficking the five women, aged between 22 and 50, for the purpose of exploiting themthrough forced labour at the Old Folks Home inJalan Mentahak, Taman Johor, Tampoi, here at 6.30 pm on July2.

He was charged under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons andAnti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 which carries a maximumjail term of 15 years and fine, upon conviction.

Deputypublic prosecutorSiti Asmah Zainal Ariffinapplied for bail ofRM20,000 for each count but counsel M.Vinodharan, who represented the accused, sought for the bail to be reduced.

Mohammad Khalidlater grantedbail ofRM20,000 with one surety for the five counts and fixed Oct 10 and 11 for a re-mention of thecase.
