Sabah, Labuan MMEA To Receive New Generation Patrol Vessel

KOTA KINABALU, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- The Sabah and Labuan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) will receive a new generation patrol vessel tomorrow, to enhance security in the waters off the state.

Its director, Rear Admiral (Maritime) Datuk Mohd Zubil Mat Som said the KM Kota Belud vessel would be stationed in the Sandakan Maritime District (DM17) and deployed for patrol in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone).

?The state-of-the-art vessel, built at the Destini Berhad Dockyard in Port Klang, Selangor, is one of six vessels that will be added on to the existing assets of the MMEA,? he said in a statement here today.

Mohd Zubil said the vessel would be equipped with 30mm SMASH Remote Controlled Stabilised Weapon Station cannon from Aselsan and Fulmar UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) for Intelligence, Review and Surveillance (ISR) tasks.

"It is also equipped with Automatic Identification System (AIS) and Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) systems to ensure a more effective three-dimensional enforcement tasks during patrol," he added.

The 45-metre-long KM Kota Belud vessel, weighing 297 tonnes, can sail up to 2,000 nautical miles.
