Pahang Award Scam: Mastermind Uses Contact Number Of Deceased Royalty

KUANTAN, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- The mastermind behind the alleged sale of non-existent honorary titles in Pahang has been found to have used the contact number of a deceased royalty.

State deputy police chief Datuk Jamaludin Kudin said the suspect, in his 40s, claimed to be a royalty and to have strong family ties with the Sultan of Pahang, Sultan Ahmad Shah to lure the victims.

"Initial investigation revealed that the suspect and his accomplice were about to start doing their activities (looking for buyers) through social media.

"The suspect has been (allegedly) making up stories (by impersonating a royalty) so that interested parties would contact him to buy 'Datuk' and 'Datuk Seri' titles," he told reporters after the Motorcycle Patrol Units (URB) Motorcycle Riding Induction Course closing ceremony and the handing over of motorcycles to Pahang police contingent's URB here today.

Jamaludin said investigation also revealed that no one had become victims so far as the duo were just about to start their illegal activity.

Police would relate the matter to the Sultan of Pahang before taking further action, he said.

It was reported that police detained two individuals including a 39-year-old woman in two raids in Kuala Lumpur believed to be involved in the selling of the titles at prices ranging from RM180,000 to RM400,000.
