More Than 1,000 Indian Students In FT Receive School Aid

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 7(Bernama) -- More than 1,000 Indian primary and secondaryschool students in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur today receivedassistance from the Federal Territory MIC Liaison Committee.

MIC president Datuk Seri Dr Subramaniam said the RM100 vouchers and school bags were given through the 'Ceria ke Sekolah' programme, which was conducted in collaboration with the Federal Territories Foundation with an allocation of RM15,000.

"Normally at the end of the year, most parents facedifficulty in catering to the needs of school going children. Therefore, this aid is expected to ease the burden of those who are less fortunate.

"Providing this assistance is a good development in our society, we see more and more organisations and agencies coming together lending ahelping hand, easing their hardship,"said Dr Subramaniam, who is also the Health Minister.

He said this to reporters after delivering the aid at the MIC Headquarters here today.

According to Dr Subramaniam, the school aid programme willbe conducted nationwide within a week or two.
