The Iskandar Development Region (IDR), or formerly known
as the South Johor Economic Region, is a development
zone located in Johor, the southern gateway to
Peninsular Malaysia.
Located at about three-hour drive south of Kuala Lumpur,
the IDR is also accessible by rail, sea, and by air
through direct flight. The Senai International Airport
is an integral a part of the development region, while
Singapore's Changi International Airport is less than
one-hour drive away. By rail, the IDR is conveniently
connected to the intercity railway service, while three
major ports – the Pasir Gudang Port, Port of Tanjung
Pelepas and Tanjung Langsat Port – provide access by
sea.
An improved and more efficient infrastructure which will
include a monorail system, high-speed train service from
KL and new highways is also in the pipeline.
The IDR covers and area of approximately 221,634 ha that
extends from the Malaysia-Singapore border, but the
areas outside it and even Malaysia in general will feel
the impact of the economic spillover. The area is set to
become one of Malaysia's most developed regions; where
living, entertainment, environment and business converge
within a bustling and vibrant metropolis. The IDR will
spur economic developments that augment Malaysia's
global potential.
The IDR is an ideal place to do business within the
Johor-Singapore-Indonesia Triangle. It offers
state-of-the-art physical infrastructure and a
world-class business environment like excellent
logistical facilities, cyber cities, and central
business administration.
